[Rails] on apache non-vhost configuration

Hi,

I have trouble to setup dispatch.cgi mode under non vhost context.
I found http://rubyonrails.org/show/Non+VHost+Installation
But, many apache directives such as Alias, RewriteLog, <Directory /path>,
which used in that page are not allowed in .htaccess context.
Is there anyone setting up rails as dispatch.cgi under non-vhost
context successfully?
Apache configuration is very difficult to me. My error.log displays:

<Directory not allowed here
Alias not allowed here
